Intelligentsia, one of the country’s most recognizable names in coffee, has opened up a new storefront on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame. The popular coffee retailer and roaster has locations in Pasadena, Silver Lake and Venice, however this is the company’s first location in Los Angeles in several years.
The new space was designed by L.A. architecture firm Standard and pays homage to the location’s historic ownership. Formerly the estate of French painter Paul De Longpré, who almost exclusively focused on watercolor flowers, the architects installed a mosaic ceiling that takes on the abstraction of a poppy field. Other unique touches include a flower-motif wall graphic, mauve bespoke espresso machine, and an expansive drink rail overlooking Hollywood Boulevard.
Founded in Chicago during the mid-1990’s, Intelligentsia quickly developed a cult-like following for participating in Direct Trade and sustainable farming practices. The company believes that coffee “should be an approachable, accessible luxury” and that their dedication to high-quality ingredients enables them to serve “remarkable coffees you won’t find anywhere else”.
Devout fans can expect traditional drip and espresso drinks at the new location, along with teas and cold brew coffee on tap. Patrons will also enjoy an array of food offerings that comes with a sweet new collaboration with Mr. Holmes Bakehouse. The L.A. bakery has a stanch following of its own and is known for innovative treats like the cruffin (a croissant-muffin hybrid filled with cream) and savory sandwiches like the manchego pastrami croissant sandwich.
Intelligentsia is open daily from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and is located at 6401 Hollywood Boulevard.
