Big Wangs Gets an Upscale Makeover

The old Big Wangs location on Cahuenga Boulevard – once a hot spot for brews, burgers and sports – is undergoing an upscale makeover and will come back later this year as 3rd  Base, a brand-new concept from a trio of owners.

Setting out to be the premier TV and snack bar for sports enthusiasts, the remodeled space will take on a more elegant appearance with dark wood finishes, marble countertops, and stadium seating in the VIP room. The sports bar will also have a private room that patrons can rent out for special events and occasions.

Chris Hewes, who has previously worked Library Bar and Ink, will be at the helm of the new innovative cocktail program. Hewes says that one of the most important things he learned while working under Michael Voltaggio (Ink) is creating an “ooh” factor for every drink. He enjoys experimenting with garnishes to make each cocktail unique and attractive. Any time a drink is brought out, Hewes said it should make the guests who see it want to order it for themselves.

In addition to handcrafted cocktails, 3rd  Base will have a full line-up of craft beers, wine, and classic sports bar fare. The new bar is a joint effort between Drew Gates (current Director of Sales for Tao Group), Shyon Keoppel (from SKVentureGroup), and James Anderson (formerly of the W Hotel and Drai’s). The newcomer is not affiliated with the Upland, CA bar of a similar name.
